Gympie

A short drive north west of Gympie you will find this lovely state forest. To get there, follow the Bruce Highway north for 10 km and then turn left onto the Wide Bay Highway. Follow this road until you get to the Peterson Road turnoff 7.8 km away. Turn left into this road and follow it to the Glastonbury Creek camping and day-use area.

Alternatively you can get there by taking the Gympie-Woolooga Road out of Gympie, turning right at Diggins Road and continuing onto Greendale Road until you reach the campground. All roads in the park are unsealed and the only roads suitable for caravans and campervans are the access roads to the camping ground.

The campground is situated alongside Glastonbury Creek (a tributary of the Mary River). Here you will find lots of underwater life including crayfish, platypus, eels, freshwater turtles and a variety of fish. It is a peaceful spot where you can sit back and enjoy the rich colour of the trees in different seasons such as the orange flowers of the silky oak and the yellow leaves of the white cedar in autumn. Within the park you will also find rainforest and stands of towering eucalypts.

Picnic tables and wood-fire BBQ areas are available however you’ll need to bring your own drinking water and firewood. Dogs are welcome if they are on leads. Campsite fees apply and local road and fire conditions are updated regularly. For the latest information visit the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) website.

Point Pure Lookout is a short drive from the campground and then you can follow a 300m return track on foot to the top of sandstone cliffs. From here you can gaze to the east over several stages of hoop pine plantations, Glastonbury Creek and distant grazing lands.

One of the most popular activities in this park is abseiling down the cliff faces from Point Pure and Eagles Nest. Please follow the safety regulations and watch out for children straying too close to the cliff edge.
