Gympie

To get to this park follow the Bruce Highway 20km south of Gympie and take the turnoff to the town of Amamoor. Pass through the town and follow the Amamoor Creek Road another 10 km to reach the national park. From this road you can access (in this order) Amama day use area, Cedar Grove camping ground and then the Amamoor Creek camping ground. All of these are situated beside Amamoor Creek and the road is suitable for caravans.

The Amama day use area features a sheltered picnic area and BBQs. You will need to bring your own firewood. Toilets and tap water are available. There is a short circuit walk from this ground where you can observe a mix of rainforest vegetation and a picturesque waterfall flowing into a small rock pool.

There are a number of other walks in the park of varying length and grades. Along the way you’ll find areas of red cedar, piccabeen palms, oaks, ironbark, large buttressed trees, and can look out to hoop pine plantations. Horse riding and mountain bike riding are permitted along the tracks. Dogs are only allowed at Amamoor Creek camping ground and must be on leashes.

For most of the year Amamoor State Forest is a peaceful retreat but for the last weekend in August it transforms into the venue for the Gympie Music Muster. Thousands of visitors flock to a temporary muster campsite and the Amamoor Creek campsite to pay homage to the best of country, blues, and bluegrass musicians from around the country. 17 stages show hundreds of performers almost around the clock so if you are after a peaceful weekend camping away from it all this is probably not the best time to visit. Campsite bookings are managed months in advance.
